Everybody gets behind sometimes.

When rent goes unpaid, both renters and property owners lose out. Our hope at Good Samaritan is that overdue rent payments will not end in eviction. If you have received a 7–Day Notice (Notice to Quit) or Court Summons, contact us or stop by one of our office locations to see if you qualify for our prevention programs.

Funding Update

Starting June 1, 2025, the Ottawa County Eviction Prevention Program will no longer be taking applications to be placed on the waitlist. While we are diligently working to secure more funds to continue this program, as of right now, our eviction prevention program will be out of funding September 2025. If you are currently on the waitlist, please know that we are doing what we can to get to everyone, but that funding is not guaranteed even for qualified applicants.

We have eviction prevention programs that offer short–term financial assistance and supportive services that help individuals and families remain housed and provide expedited payments to rental property owners. Here’s everything you need to know to get started.

Do I Qualify?

To be eligible for eviction prevention services, you must meet all of the following criteria:

Rental unit is located in Ottawa County, Michigan.
Household income is less than 50% Annual Median Income (AMI) of our area.
Have an eviction notice or court-ordered summons.
Have a lease agreement (written or verbal).
Owe less than $3,000 to property owner.
Do not have a rent-to-own lease.

What else do I need to know?

If you meet the above criteria, we’ll do everything we can to get you enrolled in one of our eviction prevention programs. Here are some other details you need to know before starting the application process.

We are currently prioritizing households that are involved in the court process.
We encourage you to speak with your property manager and start a payment plan right away to avoid eviction.
If you already have a court date set, please attend your hearing.
Landlords or property managers must agree to the eviction prevention program.
Your application does not guarantee acceptance into a program.
This is a pay-back program; you may be asked to pay back a small part of what’s paid on your behalf.
